Geoscientis are developing and applying methodologies to estimate geologic hazards associated with the sitting of nuclear fasilities, including nuclear power plants and underground repositories for longlived radioactive wastes. Understanding such hazards is a challenging task, particularly in the context that can range from many decades to tens of thousands of years. This book documents the current state of the art in volcanic and tectonics hazard assessment for peoposed neclear fasilities, which must be located in areas where the risks associated with geologic processes can be quantified and are demonstrably low.
